The theme of this trip is the Serbian royal family Karadjordjevic, who chose Oplenac and Topola for their vineyard plantations, for the construction of a wine cellar and for their mausoleum. Karadjordje Petrovic, leader of the First Serbian Uprising and founder of the Karadjordjevic Dynasty, made Topola his capital and center of state life for liberated Serbia.
The first stop is Oplenac, where we visit the Mausoleum of the Karadjordjevic Dynasty and the House of King Peter. We walk through the royal vineyards, descend into the Royal Winery, tour the museum setting and royal cellars, and sample two wines from this winery.
When Zivan Tadic, cellar of the Royal Winery from the 1930s, sent the original recipe for making famous royal wines, the history of one of Serbia’s largest brands – Aleksandrovic Winery, began. This winery, located on our second stop, continues the long tradition of winemaking and viticulture in opola. The whole range of wines produced at this place is paired with the forest table (appetizer, roasting and dessert), which is a blend of modern and traditional.
The last stop on this trip is the place of Banja and Trilogy Winery. Along with hanging out with the owner of this small family winery and a beautiful view of the vineyards surrounding this winery, we get to know the secrets of the winemaking craft. We are tasting two wines from this winery by pairing them with Sumadija snack.
At the end of the gathering, we try the famous Serbian brandy produced by the winery owner.
During this wine day, following the Serbian tradition, we toast three times.
